Zelfbesturende Landschappen

This list of the Zelfbesturende Landschappen/Selfgoverning Territories up until 1900 gives you a basic impression of the Royal Houses in Indonesia. This list excludes the districts in Aceh and the fettors (sub-rajas) of Timor (Eastern Indonesia). It is to be understood that the list rulers of  the zelfbesturende landschappen in itself don’t comprise all the Royal Houses in Indonesia since some important dynasties have never been rulers of a ZBL like Banjar, Cirebon and Aceh. At the same time there are great differences between the ZBl both in size and importance, for instance the Sultan of Pontianak (Kalimantan) is of both greater size and importance than a Raja on the island of Timor, who’s realm could have the size of a few villages. One can see the same comparison between the different rulers in former British India.
